User Motivation Inventory

A six-dimensional scale measuring user motivation

What you get

The User Motivation Inventory (UMI) measures users motivations from the perspective of Self-determination theory, an influential psychological theory of motivation.

The UMI measures motivation multidimensionally using the six subscales amotivation, external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, integrated regulation, and intrinsic motivation.

Researchers and practitioners can apply the UMI to tap into users' motivations, as well as test predictions derived from Self-determination Theory.

Get started

The UMI can be downloaded free of charge. However, applying and interpreting psychological measures should ideally be done by a trained psychologist or a researcher with basic knowledge of psychometrics and test theory.
